So you are going to start the New Year by joining a gym? Well make sure you follow these 10 simple rules to endear yourselves to your fellow gym-goers!
1. Take A Towel!
No one likes using a machine that is covered in sweat! Make sure you always carry a towel with you to mop down your equipment after you have used it! If you are going to be doing this right chances are you will be sweating all over it!
2. Put Equipment back in its place
Make sure to put weights/equipment back where they belong. Nobody wants to waste their precious gym time searching the gym for equipment!
3. Don’t expose yourself!
Always make sure you are wearing suitable clothing! People don’t want to be looking at flesh that they wouldn’t normally see! Do not go topless! EVER!
4. Do not chat to other gym members while they are exercising!
Many people get into a ‘zone’ while at the gym and do not want you talking to them about the weather last night! Save conversation until after your workout!
5. Don’t drop weights!
Just done a heavy lifting session with the free weights? Don’t drop them on the floor once you have finished! Not only could you damage them (or the floor!) but the noise could be enough to distract a fellow weight lifter and cause them to get into trouble with their own weights!
6. Don’t hog equipment!
Every other person in the gym has paid as much as you to be there! Don’t hog one piece of equipment longer than necessary. Do your workout and move on, you can recover away from the machine to allow someone else to use it.
7. Got a cold? Stay Away!
If you have a cold stay away from the gym! A heavy workout temporarily lowers your immune system meaning you will spear your cold faster that a cheetah!
8. Keep the noise in check!
Everyone makes noise when they lift heavy weights, but shouting like a crazy gorilla will not only scare/put off other members, but also may use up vital energy needed for you to complete your final rep!
9. Mirrors are there for a reason!
You may think the Mirrors placed around the gym are for you to admire yourself in, they are NOT! They are there so you can monitor your form to make sure you are doing things right. Standing there admiring yourself makes you look like a big head! Don’t do it!
10. Don’t leave your dirty clothes in your locker!
Make sure you take your dirty gym clothes home with you. No one wants to get changed in a pig sty so don’t turn the changing room into one!
Now, get down the gym and exercise like a pro!
